BluWāv has a robust intellectual property (IP) portfolio with documented proprietary technology in motors, batteries, and
software control algorithms.
BluWāv has been granted or has acquired 22
additional patents including two in Taiwan. Additionally, BluWāv has more than ten dozen U.S. and international filings in progress.
BluWāv has established programs to capture and protect all levels of IP including patentable inventions, trademarks, trade secrets and believes IP is an important source of
value creation for the company.
In order to create value from its innovations and creativity, it is essential
that BluWāv fully protect its intellectual property. BluWāv aggressively seeks to identify, protect, and enforce its IP throughout
the world. There are five general types of intellectual property: patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and trade dress.
Patents
Patents allow BluWāv to exclusively protect the rights to use new, useful,
and non-obvious technology that it develops or acquires for a period of twenty years from the patent application filing date. BluWāv routinely
files patent applications in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Japan, China, India, Thailand, Taiwan, South Korea, Brazil and in Europe. Since its founding
in 2000, BluWāv has over 50 patent applications in the United States and over 200 applications outside the United States.
Trademarks
Trademarks allow BluWāv to identify the origins of the goods and services
they provide. BluWāv routinely files trademark applications in the United States and is starting to file international marks.
BluWāv has six registered U.S. Trademarks and seven pending U.S. and international trademark applications. In addition, BluWāv has use
rights to numerous unregistered marks.
Copyrights
Copyrights allow BluWāv to exclude others from copying its creative works. BluWāv's most valuable copyrights
include its computer software code that controls the operation of its motor. In
addition to common copyrights, such as web site layout, advertising material, and user and operation manuals, other valuable BluWāv copyrights
include technical drawings for motor fabrication and assembly and control boards. BluWāv employs a multiple layered and interdisciplinary
approach to protect its software code from being copied. In addition to encryption, BluWāv has developed other safeguards to prevent its
competitors from gaining access to its software code.
Trade Secrets
Trade Secrets allow BluWāv to protect valuable business know-how without the requirement to formally disclose it to a government
examining authority. BluWāv's
management routinely reviews new technology and business processes and selectively determines whether trade secret or patent protection offers the
company the best commercial advantage.
Trade Dress
Trade Dress allows BluWāv to exclude others from copying the look of its products.
An example of BluWāv trade dress is the wheel with a black hub motor.
